The Sarah Vande Berg Tennis Center Transforms into Mouratoglou Academy Zephyrhills
2024-12-05
Zephyrhills is witnessing the official launch of the Mouratoglou Academy, set to be based at the (former) Sarah Vande Berg (SVB) Tennis and Wellness Center. This location, just west of Wesley Chapel off Simons Road, opened in 2020 as SVB and has emerged as one of Tampa Bay's top tennis facilities. It now becomes the third location for the academy led by renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who is currently training four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka and the retired Serena Williams.
Expanding into the United States Market
Florida is renowned as one of the world's great epicenters for tennis and a major hub for top-level tennis training. It is only natural for a Mouratoglou academy to establish a presence here. The Mouratoglou Academy Zephyrhills represents the latest and grandest effort in their planned expansion into the US market. The cooperation and partnership with the city of Zephyrhills are highly valued, and they are eager to create and cultivate more champion tennis players.
Clay Courts and Stadium
The Mouratoglou Academy Zephyrhills boasts nine clay courts, with a stadium court that can seat up to 3,000 fans. These clay courts provide a unique playing surface that enhances players' skills and techniques. The stadium adds to the grandeur of the facility, creating an exciting atmosphere for both players and spectators.
Hard Courts and Future Additions
In addition to the clay courts, there are two hard courts at the facility. Plans are in place to add five outdoor hardcourts and one indoor, air-conditioned court in summer 2025. This expansion will further enhance the training options available for players, allowing them to adapt to different court surfaces and improve their overall game.
Padel, Pickleball, and Beach Tennis Courts
The facility also features padel and pickleball courts, providing additional recreational and training opportunities. Two beach tennis courts add a touch of uniqueness to the complex. These diverse court options cater to different player preferences and help players develop a well-rounded game.
Tennis & School Program
The Tennis & School program at the academy offers boarding for 90 students. While they learn the American curriculum, they also have the opportunity to train under Mouratoglou, one of the most prominent coaches in the tennis world. This integrated approach combines academic learning with tennis training, preparing students for a successful future.
