Jaycee Park's Temporary Closure for Tennis Complex Construction
2024-11-22
Just a short while ago, WVUA 23 News Reporter Callie Cassady brought us some important news. Jaycee Park is currently closed as a .2 million tennis complex and other park upgrades are underway. This park lies within Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner's District 5, and it's set to attract a whole new crowd.
What the Completed Tuscaloosa Tennis Center Will Offer
Once the construction is finished, the Tuscaloosa Tennis Center will boast an impressive 17 tennis courts, a brand new pavilion, lights for evening play, a walking trail for those who enjoy a stroll, and convenient restrooms. It's truly a place for everyone to enjoy.
Tuscaloosa Tennis Director's Perspective
Mike Goldammer, the Tuscaloosa Tennis Director, reflected on how far Alberta has come. "Since that fateful day in 2011, look at the remarkable transformation that is about to unfold. The beautification of this entire area has been nothing short of phenomenal." Alberta was severely hit by the April 27, 2011, tornado, with 60% of the area left in ruins. But fast forward to 2024, and the Tuscaloosa City Council has made it clear that rebuilding this community is a top priority. "Our motto was to take it one block at a time, and we've achieved so much with the fountain, the gateway, the new fire station, police station, and now the new performing art school and Tennis Center," Goldammer said.
Construction Timeline and Expectations
The construction on this complex is expected to be completed by fall 2025. This gives the community plenty of time to anticipate the grand opening and all the wonderful amenities it will bring. It's an exciting time for Tuscaloosa as they watch their park transform before their eyes.
